Herman Stebbins wins Cowan Award
HARRISBURG - Herman
E. Stebbins of York R 5,
manager of the Sinking
Springs Farm, Inc., Tuesday
night received the 1978
Charles E. Cowan Memorial
Award from the Penn
sylvania Dairymen’s
Association during
ceremonies at the 63rd Farm
Show.
The award, “for leader
ship contributing to the
improvement and promotion
of the Pennsylvania dairy
industry,” was presented to
Stebbins at the 108th annual
meeting of the Pennsylvania
Dairymen's Association. His
wife accepted the award on
his behalf as Stebbms
himself was recuperating
from an illness.
The award winner has an
outstanding Holstein herd
that has consistently made
records in production testing
programs. The 1978 Dairy

Food Fair ordered to pay for
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Food
Fair, Inc., a retail food and
meat packing corporation
based in Philadelphia, has
been ordered by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture
to stop violating the payment
requirements of the Packers
and Stockyards (P&S) Act.
The corporation, which the
department charged in
October with failing to pay
for more than $2.6 million
worth of livestock bought
from at least 42 livestock
firms, has filed a Chapter XI
petition under the Federal
Bankrupcy Act.
