ministrator for toxic sub
stances announced that 14
pesticide ingredients used in
about 1000, mostly
agricultural products, are
being restricted for use only
by trained and certified
applicators.
The ingredients were
$1.7 million in local grant and loans
secured by rural coordinators
HARRISBURG - State
Agriculture Secretary Kent
Shelhamer announced that
rural coordinators of the
Agriculture Department’s
Bureau of Rural Affairs
have assisted local govern
ments and agencies in
securing $1,729,400 in grants
and loans.
According* to Shelhamer,
nine projects with a value of
$739,400 have been acquired
as hill grants from federal
agencies. A $990,000 com
munity loan has also been
acquired for the Newport
(Perry County) Water
Authority through the
Farmers Home Ad
ministration.
The Department’s rural
coordinators have received

recently at the Farm and
Home Center.
As a community project,
the dub will donate fifty
dollars to the Easter Seals’
Horsemanship for the
Handicapped program. The
club also collected canned
foods to donate to a local
children’s home.
The year end awards were
presented on a basis of the
most points earned at the
three dub gymkhanas held
on June 10, June 25, and
Sept 9. The results are as

ingredients are carbofuran,
chlorfenvinphos, clonitralid,
dioxathion, disulfoton, en
dosulfan,
fenamiphos, fensulfothion,
fonofos, monocrotophos,
instruction on sources of
federal funding and methods
for acquiring funds for local
community agencies.
Working with community
agencies at no charge, the
coordinators conduct
research for sources of funds
to assist in local projects.
When it appears that a
local agency may qualify for
a grant or loan, rural
coordinators will work with
the local agency to make
application, provide
technical assistance and
follow the application
through the funding chan
nels.
Shelhamer said that he
was quite pleased and proud
that the State Agriculture
Department had been able to
