However, when he started his FFA career in Sep tember of 1975 as a junior of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, his projects of apples, Indian com, and pumpkins were already at the harvest stage and his project book was up to date from January 1,1975. Dwight has been a hard worker and spends much of his time, when not attending classes at Shippensburg, working at the family or chard. However, his ac tivities do not stop there. Dwight has sold apples and exhibited fruit at the Farm Show since 1974; been a member of the Franklin County Fair Association since 1972; member of Franklin Co. Horticulture Society since 1977; member National Proposed rail NEW YORK, N.Y. - Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland has petitioned the Interstate Commerce Commission for a suspension and investigation of the increased freight rate tariff filed by the nation’s railroads. In the petition, Bergland noted that “the Department (of Agriculture) feels that the protested increases will have a serious deteminetal effect on American Agriculture...and on grain, soybeans, other oilseeds, and cotton interests in particular. In no case should agricultural products bear a higher percentage increase than the average of all commodities.” The increases proposed for these agricultural com modities are approximately double the average proposed increase on some non agricultural commodities. Bergland said: “It is unreasonable for the railroads to excessively increase grain rates when they cannot fulfill their statutory obligation to provide adequate service, and especially unreasonable to raise grain rates more that the 7 per cent average of increases on other com modities.” 101
