Dr Denton is the twelfth Maryland resident or native to receive national honors since the 4-H alumni recognition program began in 1953. Like a few of his predecessors, he actually spend his 4-H days growing up in another state. In his case it was North Carolina. As a boy, he was a 4-H member for six years in Graham County, N.C. He showed registered Jersey dairy cattle, took part in 4-H leadership and gardening projects and attended 4-H camp Here in Maryland, Dr. Denton was instrumental in starting a 4-H club at the Frederick campus of the Maryland Schools for the Deaf. Several County wide 4- H activities are held each year at that location. His wife, the former Margaret West, is an elementary school teacher.
