After rising sharply in the early 1970’5, prices received by farmers weakened in mid-1977, recovering later in the year. For 1978, prices are expected to average about 15 percent above 1977. As for prices paid by farmers, they have more than doubled during the past decade. The rate of gain is likely to ac celerate m 1978, but remain below 1973- 74 levels.
