Farm Bureau director says Congress responds to farmers
DES MOINES, lowa -
While Congress often creates
problems for agriculture, it
still responds better to the
needs of farmers and ran
chers than does any other
branch of the federal
government, John C. Datt
said here Thursday.
Datt, director of the
American Farm Bureau
Federation's Washington,
D.C. office, said that during

he was looking only at other
cooperatives, explaining: "I didn’t
like the record of private dealers ...
they just drop you when there’s too
much milk on the market.”
It is comments such as these which
provide evidence that farmers are no
longer taking their marnet for
granted.
Surely, all of a farmer's in
vestments and labors are in vain if he
has no’ place to sell his products.
Dairylea members want to make
marketing a true part of farming.
They are looking at marketing as a
real investment. They’re banking on
and bargaining for security. There is
a lesson in that for other dairymen,
and perhaps it can serve as an
example too.
Nobody at Dairylea can fully
guarantee that the recently enacted
capitalization program will solve all of
the cooperative’s problems. But
there’s little disagreement that the
plan is on the right track. The
management and membership of the
cooperative are to be commended for
the effort. It was a big undertaking,
involving-worrisome decisions. We
hope the final outcome will match the

A number of feed additives for bloody scours are on the market:
But until today, few could offer such high performance and so few

On-farm trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Lincomix. By
controlling bloody scours, Lincomix has proven its superior

reducing death losses.
And Lincomix can be fed in any ration, from starter to finishing

Cooperative Milk Producers have
also made some monumental
decisions during the past year in
hopes of offering better marketing
situations to their dairy farmer
members. They deserve our best
wishes.
And even though we singled out
dairy cooperatives for this editorial,
other marketing organizations and
cooperatives might also be included
in the final analysis. In, my opinion,
the farmer-producer is wise to make
investments for marketing security -
whether it’s milk, eggs, vegetables,
or wool.
I’m happy to know the idea is
catching on.
