Spotlighting After
Midnight Unlawful
The Game Commission
reminds all Pennsylvanians
that the practice of
spotlighting after midnight
is unlawful.
Although the law has been
in effect for more than ten
years, some persons ap
parently are stUl hot aware
of the restriction, or perhaps
they simply forget to check
their watches.
Spotlighting of deer, at
night is an activity in which
many persons, sportsmen
and sportswomen as well as
non-hunters, engage,
especially during the fall

missible up until midnight, it
is illegal to do so between
midnight and sunrise.
It is also illegal to spotlight
big game with a firearm-or
bow and arrow in the vehicle
at any time.
In recent years there has
been increasing criticism
from rural residents about

spotlights being used by
unthinking persons around
buildings. Casting the rays
of a strong light onto and into
buildings stirs up livestock,
dogs, etc. It also distrubs the
sleep or rest of rural
residents,- who are
demanding that spotlighters
“mind their manners” or
face further curb on their
activities.
Some spotlights hit light
sensitive tripping devices on
rural lights that shine at
night, turning them off.
Unpleasant situations can
be avoided simply by not
spotlighting near buildings.
