Weekly Cattle
compared with previous
week’s dose
Closing prices on
slaughter steers and heifers
were 25-50 coats higher.
Cows closed 1.00-1.50 higher
and bulls were fully steady.
Weather conditions played
a major role in the fed cattle
market following the
Thanksgiving- holiday.
Hazardous road conditions
hampered livestock move
ment over the weekend, but
warm temperatures
deteriorated feedlot condi
tions and encouraged move
ment of market - ready cat
tle. Demand continued
generally good as most in
terests came into the period
with modest live inventories
on hand.* Prices advanced
sharply on a below normal
storm-curtailed Monday
supply, but a substantial half
of die upturn was lost on an
expanded midweek run. The
overall finish of the steer and
heifer supply was still rather
attractive with a liberal
percentage choice and a
moderate volume choice and
prime. However, mud
became an increasing pro
blem as many animals car
ried at least a modest
amount of grime and mud.
Slaughter steers made up
approximately 37 per cent of
the week’s total and heifers
32 per cent Cows comprised
10 per cent and feeders 15
percent.
