    Lancaster Co. Guernsey Assn, banquet held

LANCASTER - K.D. and
Else Linde, Lindenhof
Farms, Kirkwood Pike,
Oxford, were recognized last
Friday night at the annual
Lancaster County Guernsey
Association banquet for
having the high herd in the
County for the fifth year in a
row. The Linde’s herd
averaged 14,267 pounds of
milk and 650 pounds of fat. In
1977 the herd record was
14,143 milk and 658 fat.
In accepting the award,
Linde stressed the im
portance of “working
together for success” as a
“family affair.” He said
dairymen must give the
right feed, use the right bulls
and “get pleasure” from
■their work.

Beaver Valley Pike, Willow
Street, was recognized for
her high lifetime production
of 128,967 pounds of milk and
5,788 pounds of fat. She is
sixteen years old.

awards, the Lindes took first
place in milk and fat in the
five-year-old class, with
Lindenhof Prince Don
Theresa, with a record
of 18,063 milk and 901 fat. In.
the two-year-old class
Lindenhof Farms was high
in milk with Lindenhof
Fargos Erika who had a
record of 16,060 pounds of
milk and 717 fat. Erika is
owned by Mildred E. Linde.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crider,
Brown Road, Nottingham,
were recognized several
times. Their Fra-lyn
Foremost Jester Ellen was
high in the two-year-old
class in fat with 14,813 milk
and 728 fat. Fre-lyn
Darimost Diamond won in
both milk and fat the three
year-olds with 18,410 pounds
of milkmaid 879 pounds of fat.

Breed. She said, “I looked at
what I was doing with
Holsteins, and I couldn’t do
what I wanted to do.” To her,
she said, Golden Guernseys
were the “invitation to op
portunity.”

Penn State in physical
education, owns a herd of 12
Guernseys. She was a
member of Penn State’s
dairy judging team in 1975
and tied for high individual
at the contest at the All-
American Dairy Show and
was lltb in the national
contest at Columbus, Ohio.

with any breed of cattle.
Ginger told the dairymen.
“We’ve got to increase
production of a- quality
product. Why have them if
you don’t look at produc
tion?”
She urged the breeders to
use the best genetic tools
available, acknowledging
that the selection of bulls is
