14—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 25,1978 ELCO Young Farmers honor top producers MYERSTOWN - The Eastern Lebanon County Young Adult Farmers named their outstanding producers at their fourth annual banquet held November 20 at the ELCO High School, Myerstown R 2. In the mature milk cow contest, sponsored by Roger Heller of Agri-King, first place went to Willow Maple Farm, Donald and Harold Bollinger, Myerstown R 4. Second place went to Paul, Max and Glenn Sonnen, Richland Rl., and third place was won by Marlen Getz of Myerstown R 4. Marlen Getz took top honors in the two year old milk contest. His entry produced 21,396 pounds of milk. Third place went to Kirby L. Horst of Newmanstown Rl with 19,303 pounds. This division was sponsored by James Batz of Batz Feed and Supply. With 1185 pounds, Maple Willow Farms took first place in the mature cow fat contest. Raymond Getz, Myerstown R 4, had the second place entry with 841 pounds, while Marlen Getz won third with 836 pounds. This Contest was sponsored byAgway. In the two year old fat contest, Marlen Getz won first place with 803 pounds, Willow Maple Farms placed second with 754 pounds. Kirby L. Horst place third with 708 pounds. The com yield contest, based on bushels per acre was won by Fred Bohn, Myerstown Rl, with a total of 187.32 bushels per acre. Herman Sauter, Myerstown R 4, came in second with 182.95 bushels per acre. John R. Moyer of Newmantown R 2, placed third with a grand total of 182.65 bushels per acre. The com vield contest was sponsored by Joseph and Richard Kreider of Pioneer Seed Com. J.A. Swope Silo equipment donated awards to. the winners of the com silage contest which was based on total tons of total digestable nutrients (TDN; per acre with the testing done at the Pictured left to right are the outstanding producers of ELCO Young-Adult Farmers. They are Donald Bollinger of Willow Maple Farm; Fredrick J. Bohn; Gerald Strickler, (Young Farmer Advisor); John R. Moyer; and Marien Getz. Pennsylvania 1 State University. Willow Maple Farm took top honors in this catagory with 23.57 tons. Herman Santer placed second with 21.12 tons and Paul and Donald Bollinger Myerstown R 2 came in third with 20.12 tons. The hay quality contest was sponsored by the -Carl Wenger of Wengers Farm Machinery. The hay sam ples were tested for energy at the Pennsylvania State University Forage Testing Station. , Winning the event was John R. Moyer. His hay samples tested at 58.4 per cent energy. Donald Landis of Myerstown R 2, came in second with his hay samples testing at 52 per cent energy. Raymond Weaver of Newmanstown Rl, placed third. His hay contained 49 per cent energy.
