DHIA herd awards presented
Earl Baum, Pennsylvania DHIA Fieldman is shown presenting DHIA awards to
the Thomas Sheaffer family. Thomas is holding their award for having Cum
berland County highest DHIA herd average of milk production and his wife,
Cindy, is holding their award for having the high butterfat average. The M.
Thomas Sheaffer herd, Carlisle R 5, has 50 registered cows producing 18,532
lbs. of milk and 681 lbs. of fat. Daughter Kim is holding a plaque that the family
received for having the County’s High Butterfat producing two year old. Their
two year old “Huntsdale Peaches Unique" produced 799 lbs. of fat and 19,488
lbs. of milk.
J. Shephard Wolff, Newviile Rl, won the high two year old in milk award. His
two year old produced 23,471 lbs. of milk and 719 of fat. Both two year olds are
registered Holsteins.

Jr. beef breeding winners chosen
HARRISBURG - There
was intense competition at
the junior beef breeding
classes for 4-H and FFA
members, an annual event
at the Keystone In
ternational Livestock Ex
position. Recognizing that
the future of the livestock
industry is in the hands of
the youth, the show focuses a
lot of the competition on the
junior exhibitors.
Janice Kaylor of
Elizabethtown, captured the
grand champion female and
senior grand champion
female honors with her
summer yearling, “SMR
Diamond Lassy 710,” m the
Charolais judging. Last
year Miss Kaylor also won
the grand and senior
champion female titles at
the show.

champion female honors in
the Charolais class with his
winter calf, “SMR Barbara
Lynn.” The reserve senior
champion female, a spring
yearling, was exhibited by
Eric Van Boron of Venus.
The reserve junior
champion female in the
Charolais class was a winter
calf, “G C Perfecto’s
Trudy,” shown by Gordon R.
Smith of Landenburg.
In the Hereford junior beef
breeding judging, Donna Jo
Rouse of Westfield, captured
the champion heifer title
with her 19-20 month spring
yearling, “N A F Miss Beau
823.” Her sister, Jo-Lynn
Rouse, exhibited the reserve
champion heifer, also a 19-20
month spring yearling,
“THF Miss Beau 7021.”’

exhibited the champion
heifer in the junior beef
Polled Hereford class with
his senior heifer calf, “R G L
Victra.” The reserve
champion heifer “CJF Ms
Valiant 7725,” an early
summer yearling heifer, was
shown by Jeff W. Claycomb
ofOsterburg.
The champion heifer in
Shorthorn judging,
“Greenland Queen Lady
345,” a summer yearling,
was shown by S. Ashby
McCarthy of Delaplane, Va.
In Angus judging, the
champion heifer, “Blackcap
Velvet M 55G,” was
exhibited by Laureen Novak
of Neward, Ohio. Wendy
Macintosh of Appamattox,
Va. showed the reserve
champion heifer, “Waltz
Bartessa Favorite 997.”
