These 4-H’ers were among
500 delegates and their
leaders who attended the
convention.
The NJHA meeting
brought together young hor
ticultural leaders from
across the nation who com
peted in various demonstra
tions and contests, took part
in tours of the Northern Ohio
area, and learned many new
things about the wide world
of horticulture.
Convention delegates from
about 25 states competed for
national honors in such
areas as environmental
education and beautifica
tion; production and
marketing; experimental
horticulture; speaking con
tests; gardening; plant pro
pagation; and achievement
and leadership recognition.
Some 275 delegates com
peted in judging, informa
tion and identification
phases of the horticulture
contest. They judged fruits,
vegetables, flowers, and or
namentals, took a written
test on a variety of hor
ticultureal topics, and iden
tified more than 100
specimens.
Other program highlights
included horticultural and
leadership workshops; tours
of research facilities,
greenhouses and several
museums; and exciting
messages from experts in
the horticultural field.

represented at this national

champions named
HARRISBURG, PA. - Pete
Bowling, Leesburg,
Virginia, took the grand
champion stallion title with
his four-year-old stallion,
“Flashy Flame Junior,” at
Quarter Horse judging
Monday at the Keystone
International Livestock
Exposition being held at the
Farm Show Complex in
Harrisburg.
A Cumberland County
entry, “Impressive Smoke,”
was named the reserve
grand champion stallion.
The three-year-old “Smoke”
was exhibited by Harry and
Delores Jones, Carlisle.
The grand champion
mare,“Ms. Scarlet O’Hara,”
a four-year-old mare, was
shown by Kenneth Mills,
Fruitland, Maryland.
Reserve grand champion
honors went to Jackie
Paint horse show
results told
HARRISBURG, PA. ■ A
three-year-old horse from
Kansas captured the grand
champion stallion title in
Paint Horsejudging at the
Keystone International
Livestock Exposition being
held at the Farm Show
Complex in Harrisburg. The
stallion, “Hatchett,” was
shown by Bill Lee HitQe of
Hugoton, Kansas.
The reserve grand
champion stallion, a four
year-old, “Skip Bar Dude,”
was exhibited by Crystal
Garvin, Penfield, Clearfield
County, Pennsylvania.
