HARRISBURG - The
Keystone International
Livestock Exposition opened
November 4 at ,the State
Farm Show cdbplex in
Harrisburg with competition
in the sheep breeding classes
of the Hampshire, Shrop
shires, and Suffolks.
In the Hampshire breeding
classes, a spring ram, shown
by Vemon Deal and Family,
Navarre, Ohio, took the
champion title. The Deal
family also showed the
champion ewe, from the
Spring lamb class.
Albert Wilson, Jr, Rural
Retreat, Va., showed both
the reserve champion ram
and the reserve champion
ewe. For the third year in a
row, he was named the
premier exhibitor for the
Hampshire breed.
In the Shropshire classes,
Shober and Calvert Farms,
Berlin, Pa. showed the
champion ram, the reserve
champion ram, and were
named the premier
exhibitor. Both the cham
pion ewe and the reserve
champion ewe were shown
by exhibitors from Ohio; the
champion ewe being shown
by Douce Farms,
Washington, and F. W.
Heaton and family, Ver
sailles; having the reserve
champion.
Timothy M. Hall, Farm
dale, Ohio, took nearly all
the top honors in the Suffolk
sheep classes by showing the
champion ram, the cham
pion ewe, and the reserve
champion ewe He was also
named the premier

on a 20 acre tarm with her
parents, where they raise
registered Dorsets.
She said that she first
became involved with sheep
two years ago, when she
purchased one animal for
the ladies’ lead class. Now
she owns 15 animals.
She hopes to visit fairs and
shows, and plans to try and
get the younger members of
4-H more involved in the
clubwork. Above all, she
stated, her duties will be to
promote the sheep and lamb
industry in Pennsylvania.
