He pledged to be sensitive to the needs of farming and marketing problems, calling the problem “a toughie”. He stated that he was opposed to any new gun law controls but still dedicated to the prosecution of criminals using firearms in their crimes. He talked of his 12 point plan to promote business and industry in Pennsylvaniam, mentioning tax reform, the development of a sound energy program, and Penn Dot reform. He told his rally that a statewide poll taken last week, he was placed within eight per cent of Flagherty, and he siad that the latest Gallup poll showed him within four points of the Democrat condidate. “I think we’re bridging the gap,” Thornburgh said. “Our message is getting across.” He promised the assem bled fanners that they would have a secretary of agriculture and staff that would represent them and tend to the fanning needs.
