Omaha
Cattle
Thursday, October 19,1978
Compared with the
previous week’s close: clos
ing prices .on slaughter
steers and heifers were
steady to weak although
trading was often a selective
affair. Cows'closed weak to
.50 lower and bulls were
.50-1.00 higher.
Four day receipts to 10,700
as compared to 13,500
previous week and 15,500 a
year ago. The fed cattle
trade again followed an ir
regular course. Despite a
modest Monday supply,
prices were forced
downward in reflection of a
sharply declining carcass
trade late the previous week.
However, most of the early
downturn was regained on
later sessions in rather forc
ed trading as marketings
continued below normal and
most buying interests were
in need of cattle for im
mediate requirements.
Trading was~ usually
characterized by an air of
caution and selectivity with
best demand for choice and
prime 1050-1300 lb. steers
and same grade 925-1050 lb.
heifers with a minimal
number of yield grade 4
animals. Harvest operations
were in full swing
throughout the area and
often claimed first priority
over cattle marketing.
Slaughter steers made up
approximately 32 per cent,
■Heifers 23 per cent, cows 7
per cent, and feeders 36 per
