Extension Service staff, has
been named recipient of the
1978 Master Educator Award

sylvania Association of
Farmer Cooperatives
(PAFC).
The award is presented
annually to a member of the
Pennsylvania Extension
Service staff “for out
standing teaching and
leadership in the areas of
general agriculture 'and
cooperative business
programs.”
Piper was honored at
PAFC’s annual meeting
October 18 in Gettysburg.
He also received an expense
paid trip to the annual
meeting of the American
Institute of Cooperation held
in Montana July.
The Adams County agent
was cited for his educational
programs with - area
cooperatives and county
agricultural organizations.
Piper conducted training

He worked closely with
officials of the Maryland
Cooperative Milk Producers
in establishing a district
within Adams County in
1977.
Piper aided 12 fanners in
gaining recognition as
Pennsylvania , Master
Farmers. He also assisted in
the interpretation of
research and the adoption of
new agricultural technology.
In 1975, the value of Adams
County farm products sold
amounted to $56 million.
The award recipient is
responsible for the super
vision of the county Dairy
Herd Improvement
Association testing
program, serves as an ex
officio member of the Adams
County Holstein Association
Autumn retreats set
LANCASTER - Mrs.
Matilda Kipfer from Elmira,
N.Y. will be the meditation
leader at a retreat for
women of all ages and faiths,
October 31 thru November 2.
The retreat will be held at
Camp Hebron, Halifax, 15
miles north of Harrisburg.
Mrs. Kipfer will base her
meditations on the
theme “Crucified But
living.”'

Resource Development
Committee comprised of
XJ.S. Department of
Agriculture’s related
agencies.
He conducted workshops
on land use planning which
have led to the formation of
32 municipal planning
commissions and greater
interest in the preservation
of agricultural land.
Piper also is responsible for
the Adams County 4-H Dairy
Club, two 4-H community
clubs, and the 4-H hor
ticultural judging team.
This past August he was
recipient of a Distinguished
Service Award from the
National Association of
County Agricultural Agents
for his service to the state’s
agricultural industry.
Piper is on the board of
directors of the Adams
County Torch Club and
Adams County United Way
and a member of the Dairy
Shrine Club and Epsilon
Sigma Phi and Delta Theta
Sigma fraternities.
A one day retreat for
women will be held at Mt.
Joy Mennonite church. Sat,
Nov. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to3;00
p.m. Mrs. Erma Maust will
bring the meditations.
Ladies are to bring their own
lunch, beverage will be
provided. No reservations
are necessary. A free -will
offering will be received to
help with expenses.
