*Egg Beaters' on trial ATLANTA, Ga. The long battle between the nation’s egg producers and Standard Brands has reached United States District Court here. Proceedings opened on Monday. It is the culmination of the litigation brought against the food industry giant by United Egg Producers on behalf of all egg producers. The suit dates back to October of 1975 when egg producers from all over the country were outraged at attacks being made on their product through allegedly false and misleading advertising .of Standard Brands’ product “Egg Beaters.” The very name implied that the product was superior to nature’s own egg. UEP spokesmen said: “while they definitely had us "beat 'in AFTER BEFORE AFTER CUSTOM SCIENTIFIC GLASS, INC. 249 S. BRIDGE ST. ELKTON, MARYLAND 21921 (301) 398-0505 BEFORE HOW LONG TIL SQUEALER TIME? Standard Brands, however, does not want its hands tied by advertising restrictions. Some of the “Egg Beater” advertising lines which egg producers object to are: “...all the taste and nutrition of farm fresh eggs...” “If you had two eggs this morning, you’re already over the daily cholesterol limit recommended by many doc tors.” “Many doctors recommend...” United Egg Producers has conducted numerous fund raising efforts and expresses deep gratitude to those who have donated time and money to the cause of the legal confrontation with Standard Brands.
