Colored breeds show at Gratz
GRATZ Earl Keefer,
David Feidt, Steven Witmer,
Jody Matter, and Faith
Lafferty were owners of
grand champion dairy
animals in open competition
at the Gratz Fair which was
held Sept. 9-16.
Matter won her title in the
Milking Shorthorn show
without opposition, .while
Lafferty won every blue
ribbon in the Jersey contest.
Keefer was the lone
winner in the cow classes of
the Ayrshire show as his
entries were consistently
given the blue rbbon. In
addition, Keefer won the
produce of dam, dam and
daughter, dairy herd, and
best three females classes.
Most of the ribbons in the
junior half of the show were
also awarded to Keefer,
although the championship
recognition was bestowed on
Steve Shetterly who had the
first-place intermediate calf.
Debra Shetterly, exhibiting
the top junior calf, was cited
for junior champion honors.
The only other exhibitor to
have a first-place animal in
the open Ayrshire show was
Tracy Buffington.
David Feidt left no doubt
in anyone’s mind that he
was the man to beat when
the Brown Swiss classes
entered the ring. His entries
stood first in the senior calf,
junior yearling, 2-year old, 4-
year old, senior get of sire,
best three females, dairy
herd, and produce of dam
classes. He had all the cow
champions, as well as the
entry with the most nearly
perfect udder, and the junior
champion..
