The number of milk cows
in the commonwealth during
August was 700,000 head,
about the same as a year
ago. Production per cow
averaged 955 pounds in
August compared with 950 a
year ago.
United States milk
production during August
totaled 10.3 billion pounds,
down one per cent from
August 1977. Production per
cow averaged 945 pounds
compared with 947 a year
ago. Milk cows on faims
totaled 10.9 million head,
down one per cent from
