Brian Bankert has champion market hog
YORK Brian Bankert, 11, added another grand
championship rosette to his collection last week when he
exhibited the grand champion market hog at the York
Fair. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Bankert, Hanover,
the young member of the Jefferson 4-H Club took a 230-
pounder into the ring which the judge described as being a
good representative of “today’s modem hog.”
The runner-up for the high honors was Steve Trostle, 15,
son of Mr., and Mrs. Ronald Trostle, Red Lion. His entry
was a 225-pounder.
Other placings in the show, which had eight classes,
were as follows:
Class 1-1. Jennifer DePalmer, Brodbecks; 2. John
Mummert, Seven Valleys; 3. Kevin DePalmer, Brod
becks.
Class 2 -1. Harold Mummert, Seven Valleys; 2. John
Mummert, 3. Todd Mummert.
Class 3-1. Gus Parlett, \irvdle; 2. Gus Parlett, .3
Harold Mummert.
Class 4 - 1. Gus Parlett, 2. Brian Bankert, 3. Brian
Bankert.
Class 5 - 1. Steve Trestle, 2. Mike McClain, Stewart
stown; 3. Jon Janney, Brodbecks.
Class 6-1. Melissa Trostle, Red Lion; 2. Todd Mum
mert, 3. Shelly Bankert.
Class 7-1. Brian Bankert, 2. Shelly Bankert, 3. Shelly
Bankert.
In fitting and showmanship competition, Gus Parlett,
son of Mr. and Mrs. James Parlett, Airville, was named
champion fitter and Brian Bankert won the showmanship
honor. The respective reserve spots were filled by Beverly
Brown of Delta and Steve Trostle of Red Lion.
Placmgs of the junior, intermediate and senior age
groups follow:
Gus Parlett led his age group -12 years and under -in
fitting. Melissa Trostle followed in second place and Brian

Gus Parlett, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Parlett, •
Airville, was grand champion swine fitter at the
York Fair.
Bankert was third In showmanship, Brian Bankert led
the pack, followed by Mehssa Trostle and Gus Parlett.
Ronnie Wilson was the winner among 12-14 year olds in
fitting competition. Steve Trostle followed and Mike
McClain was third. In showmanship, Trostle placed first,
Michelle Bankert was second, and Harold Mummert was
third.
Beverly Brown led the fitting contest among seniors.
John Mummert and Kevin DePalmer followed in that
order. In showmanship, Mummert placed first, followed
by Jeff Wilson and Beverly Brown.
