and care.
Mrs. Drick is a member of
both the American and
Pennsylvania Home
Economics Associations; the
National and Pennsylvania
Associations of Extension
Home Economists; Epsilon
Sigma Phi, Extension
honorary; and Business and
Professional Women. She
has served the Pensylvania
Association of the Extension
Home Economists on
numerous committees. As a
member of the Grange, she
has served as secretary and
Lady Assistant Steward.
Schuylkill County Ex
tension home economist on
Penn State University staff,
Mrs. Hand will be cited for
her unique educational
programs stressing self
improvement, expertise in
clothing construction,
programs for the working
woman and foods and health
programs.
Mrs. Hand’s self
improvement-type program,
supplemented by reading
lists and study sheets, are
designed to encourage in
dividuals to reach their full
potential. A course, “For
Women Over Forty-The
Look You Like,” was
completed by 76
homemakers. The programs
have been presented to
numerous professional,
social service, civic, church
and homemaker’s groups
and help make Extension
more visible in Schuylkill
County.
Her indepth clothing
programs have been con
ducted for homemeakers
and professionals alike.
Adult leaders taking the
training have gained greater
confidence in teaching
clothing to others.
“Mini-lessons for the
Working Woman,” including
topics ranging from money
management to cleaning
furniture, have been
presented at manufacturing
plants to workers during
their breaks and lunch
hours.
Mrs. Hand is concerned
with the health of Schuylkill
County residents and has,
within the Extension
framework, conducted with
cooperating agencies,
workshops on obesity and
diabetes.
Mrs. Hand is a member of
the American Home
Economics Association and
