CHESTER WHITES
The Chester White show tamed out to be a battle
dominated by Gus Parlett, a young 4-H'er from Airville
R 2, who showed the top lightweight, mediumweight, and
heavyweight barrows, and Boyd Brothers of The Brogue
who had the two best boars and the best gilt. Boyds also
had a second-place entries in lightweight and
heavyweight barrow competition.
Boyds won three out of four boar classes, leaving the
March honors to Jim Parlett, father of Gus.
In the sow contest, Donald Schrum of Spring Grove had
the top junior yearling and Boyd Brothers won the senior
yearling class. Boyds won the senior championship, while
Schrum took the reserve banner.
In gilt competition, it was James Parlett scoring firsts
with his January and April entries, while Boyd Brothers
captured the February titles and Rodger Banker! was
tops with the March pigs. The junior champion, belonged
to Boyd Brothers, the reserve champion to Parlett. Boyd
brothers won both the grand and reserve grand titles.
Steve Trestle, Red Lion; and Grant Lazarus, Ger
mansvllle, dominated this show. Trestle, a 4-H’er, had the

top two January boars and champion boar. Lazarus
showed the two best February, March, and April boars
and had one of his entries chosen as reserve champion
boar.
Lazarus then went on to win the mature sow class,
edging Denton Griest of Abbottstown, who won the junior
yearling sow class. Trostle had the best senior sow, which
was judged senior champion. Griest’s junior yearling was
awarded the reserve champion honor.
In gilt competition, Trostle won-the top two places in the
January class, Lazarus won he top two spots in the
February class, and Larry Robinson of Delta won the
March lass. Trostle was second. The April class was won
by Trostle, with Lazarus placing second. Trostle had the
junior an reserve junior champion in the gilt classes.
Grand champion of the breed was an entry by Trostle,
with Griest's entry named to the reserve honor.
In barrow competition, Trostle had the champion and
reserve champion barrow. Lazarus had the best pairs,
champion and reserve champion.
Mummert, Wessner and Bankert were the predominant
names in this show. Shelly Bankert, a young exhibitor
from Red Lion, had the senior champion sow and
champion barrows, both individuals and pairs. Harlan
Wessner had the junior champion boar and Mrs. Harold
Mummert won the gilt championships.
Wessner placed first in January boars, Mrs. Harold
Mummert was second. Among February entries, Mrs.'
Mummert was first and Wessner was runner-up. Wessner
