Groff, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Groff, Quarryville R 2, showed a Simmental-Angus weighing 1220 pounds. The steer purchased from Sam Wiley, Nottingham, was the reserve champion of the show and the first place heavyweight FFA steer. Ferguson paid a total of $1,830 at the price of $1.50 a pound. Twenty-three head of beef went before the auction block bringing in final bids ranging from 82 cents a pound paid by James Kreider for 'the reserve champion FFA steer of the show, owned by Dwight Herr, to 68 cents. The animals weighed from 875 pounds to 1240 pounds with the average price at 77 cents per pound. Mussers Store bought seven of the animals before the sale ended. Simeone, trading as the Fruit Basket m Bethel Park, Pa., was recently ordered to pay a reparation award by the U.S. Depart ment of Agriculture for violations of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act(PACA). Hatfield Packing Co. started out the sale by buying the cham pions weighing a total of 425 pounds for the bid of $1.05. Dannette Groffs grand champion hogs were her first entries at the Solanco fair. A total of 21 pens of market hogs were sold with prices ranging from $.56 to $1.25. Hatfield Packing pur chased half of the 52 hogs sold during the sale. . Kim Reichart, Lit tlestown, exhibited the reserve grand champion 4-H steer. She placed first in the jr. fitting class and second in the jr. showmanship class. Jim Reichart, Littlestown, exhibited the champion lightweight 4-H steer and placed third in the in termediate fitting class and fourth in the intermediate showmanship class. Erik Quanbeck, Fairfield, showed the champion and reserve champion Santa Gertrudis heifer. He placed fifth in the intermediate fitting and intermediate showmanship classes. Seed law violated NEW YORK, N.Y. - A federal court has ordered Northrup, King and Co., of Minneapolis, Minn., to pay a $1,950 penalty for seven violations of the Federal Seed Act. The Act, ad ministered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is a truth-in-labeling law intended to protect farmers and consumers who buy seed. The U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota ordered the penalty; two additional charges were dismissed.
