Holstein herd in 8-county competition earlier this

KUTZTOWN - Many 4-
ITers representing eight
southeastern counties
gathered recently at the
Kutztown Fairgrounds, to
compete in the 33rd annual
Southeast 4-H Dairy Show.
Youth exhibited cattle in six
individual shows
representing Holstein,
Brown Swiss, Milking
Shorthorn, Ayrshire, Jersey,
and Guernsey breeds.
Judging the 231 cattle
which were shown by the 175
4-H club members were
Peter Blodgett of Carnation
Genetics and Dr. Larry
Muller of Penn State.
Blodgett officiated the
Holstein show which was the
largest with 106 entries while
Muller judged the colored
breeds.
Taking top honors for the
day was Steven Shaw, Oley
R 2, with his prized aged cow,
Wa-Ka-Sta-T-Dule Leo Gigi,
who was named Senior and
Grand Champion of the
Holstein show. Fifteen year
old Steven, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. James Shaw had
won other honors with this
cow earlier in the season but
did not walk away with the
Grand Champion title until
this show, held on September
1.
Following behind with the
Reserve Champion was 18
year old Karen Sattazahn,
daughter of Clarence Sat
tazahn, Womelsdorf Rl.
Karen won her place in the
limelight with her two year
old, Zahnheim Triune Spice,
which she had bred herself.
Other champions of the
various shows were; 12 year
old Elizabeth Jenkins of
Toughkenamon for the
Guernsey breed; 17 year old
Cynthia Waltemyer of
Collegeville for Jerseys;
Nedra Yoder,
Shoemakersville for Milking
Shorthorn; 12 year old
William Henley of
Cochranville for Ayrshires;
and Ronald Ray Daubert, 18
of Pine Grove for the Brown
Swiss Show.
