Computer
LANCASTER The age
of computers has arrived on
the dairy farm. Last week.
the John Landis family,
which owns a large dairy
operation northwest of here,
had a computer installed
which is one of the first of its
kind in the nation.
Part of Bou-Matic‘s
System 2000, the computer is
known as Agricomp 2020. It
is, according to the

Steele joins Richard W.

Paul L. Dann of Collegeville,
as a partner in Taurus
Service, Inc. Taurus Service
was founded in early 1971 by
Witter. They first served as
distributors for Carnation
Breeding Service. Later as
changes occurred in the A.I.
industry, Dann, joined the
organization and they began
distributing semen for All-
West Breeders and Tri-State

ALLENTOWN - In 4-H
steer judging at the Allen
town Fair, Carol Krause of
Slatmgton showed the grand
champion in the lightweight,
middleweight, and
heavyweight divisions.
Reserve 4-H champion was
shown by David Huff,
Lafayette Hill, Montgomery
County.
Krause took champion
honors in 4-H fitting. Diane
Krause, Slatmgton, was
named champion showman.
Reserve champion fitter was
Gail Snyder, New Tripoli,
helping on dairy farm
manufacturer, an integral
part of Bou-Matic’s System
2000.
The Agricomp 2020
features 10 different types of
reports with push-button
ease, and includes a high
speed printer which uses
standard adding machine
paper and printing ribbons.
The unit automatically
collects and stores daily
production data on each cow.
Breeders. In 1975, Taurus
Service increased their
service area to include New
York and the New England
states. At the same time they
added sires from several
other studs to their line-up.
Today Taurus Service is
one of the nations largest
independent semen
distributing firms. They
represent six major bull
studs. Namely: Tri-State
Breeders; All West
Breeders; Carnation-Genet
ics; Atlantic Breeders
Cooperative, and also two
Canadian studs: I : led
Breeders, Inc.; Eastern
Breeders, Inc. They wcrk in
all the Northeast States from
Virginia to the Canadian
Border.

County.
In the FFA competition,
the champion steer was
exhibited by Grant Grim,
Breinigsville, and the
reserve champion steer by
Cathleen Wisser, Mertztown.
Champion FFA fitter was
Grant Grim, and reserve
champion fitter was Gwen
Hower, Northampton. Top
showman was Grim and
reserve champion showman
was Hower.
Aside from reducing
manual record keeping
chores, the computer allows
for visual monitoring of
operations and display of
information without a
printed report. It can even
eliminate the need for
written special handling
instructions since a call into
the computer can identify
problem' areas with in
dividual cows.
The Agricomp 2020 allows
for immediate evaluation of
a cow’s performance, which
may indicate incomplete
milking or a possible health
problem.
