CARLISLE - The County
Butcher Shop of Plainfield
paid a county record price of
$3.50 a pound for the grand
champion market hog shown
by Kim Shealfer of Carlisle
R 5, at the 1978 Cumberland
County 4-H Pig Roundup and
Sale. The event was held at
the Carlisle Livestock
Market on August 22.
Kim Sheaffer, the 8-year
old daughter of Mr. & Mrs.
Thomas Sheaffer of Carlisle
R 5, and a first year 4-H
member, won the cham
pionship'honor with her 235
pound Duroc-cross gilt. It
also gained for her the title
of champion fitter of the
roundup.
The reserve champion, a
245 lb. Duroc exhibited by
Tun Kutz of Carlisle R 4, sold
to Hatfield Packing Com
pany of Hatfield, for $1.70 a
pound. Hatfield was the
leading buyer at the sale
purchasing a total of 32 hogs.
The champion trio shown
by Jenny Fenicle of Carlisle
RB, was sold to Pennsylvania
Packing Company of
Philadelphia. Pennpack also
purchased the champion
pair which was exhibited by
Chris Hopple of
Mechanicsburg R 2, and by
the end of the sale had
successfully bid on 16 more
hogs.
In addition to the Cham
pion, The Country Butcher
Shop purchased nine hogs,
J.C. Eberts & Son of Carlisle
bought 12, and other suc
cessful bidders were
Knisely’s Agricultural
Center, Carlisle; Potties
Furniture Store, Newville;
John Stamy, Newville; and
Richard Zimmerman of
Plainfield.
The 93 4-H project hogs
sold at an average weight of
219 pounds for an overall
average price of $65.44 cents
per pound. Without the
champion the average price
was $62.12 cents per pound.
The 4-H Swine Roundup
Dinner theatre
party planned
YORK A dinner theatre
party at Wise He. on Hall
has been arranged by the
York County Society of
Farm Women. Date of the
party is September 1,
beginning at 7 p.m., when
the musical “I do, I do”, will
be seen.
Orders for tickets may be
given to any member of the
York Farm Women Society.
Doors of the dinner theatre
will open at 6 p.m. and
tickets will be on sale at the
door. This party is open to
the public. Dinner will be
served at 7 p.m.
