‘Peachilicious’
weekend Sept. 2-4

Maple Lawn. Farms, Gat
chellville, will celebrate the
peach season harvest with
their fourth annual
Peachilicious Labor Day
Weekend, September 2,3,
and 4. The craft bam will
open noon to 6 p.m. Saturday
and Monday, 1 to 6 p.m.
Sunday with peachy foods
galore to benefit local
organizations.
Everything starts with
peaches on the Peachilicious
Weekend. Pies and desserts
all with peachy fillings will
be baked by women from Mt.
Nebo Methodist Church from
peaches picked and
delivered by the Youth
Group for the second year.
Proceeds will go to the
building fund to rebuild their
church ravaged by fire
February, 1977. Eastern Star
ladies will man the ice
cream sundae stand with
peach, vanilla and raspberry
to be topped with fresh
peaches from the Maple
Lawn Farms orchards
prepared on the site.
Peachy dogs will round out
the menu by the Tom
Wallace Family who will be
barkering their tasty treats
for the eighth straight
festival. The doggies are
charcoal broiled, then
simmered in a spicy peach
sauce to be served on a bun
with the drizzled sauce in
place of regular condiments.
Even the craftsmen will
adhere to the peach theme
with at least one peachy item
in their line of wares.
A highlight for the children
will be two showings of the
puppet show by Carolyn
Koerber and Lynda Kidder
featuring lifesize puppets at
2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the
Apple Bam near the Elberta
orchard on the Brown Farm
near Gatchellville.

crafts, a peachy puppet,
peachy fun will complement
the U-Pick peaches in the
orchard,” announces Paul
McPherson, manager. “We
should have plenty of
Elbertas for those who still
want to can peaches and Red
Skins for the canning and
freezing homemakers. Tho
the crop was extremely
short this year, we should
have plenty of these
varieties to last the
weekend. The later ones:
Rio Oso Gems, Clover-leaf
Specials and Marqueens will
not be so plentiful. So this
will be the last major har
vest time of the season
stretching into mid-
September.”
Buses, schools, tour
groups are all welcome to
the farm three miles north of
Fawn Grove, at Gat
chellville, Pa. Admission is
free.
Livestock
judging held
KUTZTOWN - The annual
Livestock Judging Contest at
the Kutztown Fair was held
on August 18. The FFA
division of this contest was
won by Marjorie Faust of
Kutztown. Ken Sweitzer of
Twin Valley was second;
Howard Griest in of Twin
Valley fifth; Rodney Salem
of Conrad Weiser sixth; Ron
Sutliff of Kutztown seventh;
Henry Noss of Conrad
Weiser, eighth; Kevin
Zimmerman of Conrad
Weiser, nineth; and Ed
Sittler of Oley, tenth.
