M Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 19,1978 people understand the structure and function of our system of government, the heritage of our country’s development and individual roles in the nation’s future. Using the nation’s capital as a “classroom” the program included a day on Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress and see government in Action. Participants started off the day touring the Capitol and Supreme Court. Area 4-H’ers talked with Congressman Robert Walker, and Senator John Heinz. Field trips to historical and cultural sites as well as visits to national agencies and organizations were among the most informative and exciting parts of the week, the Lancaster Countians said. According to Sue Frost, the Kennedy Center, Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian History and Technology building were great experiences. “Tor chlight Tatoo” presented by the Old Guard and “The Wiz” followed by ice cream at Parrels were regarded as the best field trips of the week.
