Packers were in need of im
mediate slaughter re
quirements and responded to
small early week
marketings by pushing
slaughter steer and heifer
prices up sharply. Although
marketings and slaughter
remained moderate,
packers turned cautious
again by this midweek.
Some local packers con
tinued out of the market due
to plant renovation and
vacations. Slaughter steers
made up approximately 45
per cent of the total weeks

Holstein Club
tour set
LANCASTER - The
Lancaster County Junior
Holstein Club is sponsoring a
tour to several herds in
Maryland on August 15.
Reservations should be sent
in as soon as possible to
Linda Kauffman,
Elizabethtown Rl, 17022. The
deadline for doing so is
August 4.
The tour is open to any
member of the Club, adult,
or friend who hkes to see
good cows. The cost of the
tour is $l2 per person. It is
suggested that tour par
ticipants also bring a bag
lunch and a few dollars for
an evening meal.
The bus will be leaving the
Lancaster Farm and Home
Center at 7 a.m.
Herds to be visited include
JPG Holsteins, My Lady’s
Manor Farm, Kinglea
Holsteins, and Fair Hill
Farm.’
