Omaha Cattle Omaha July 13,1978 CATTLE: Compared with previous weeks to close. Through midweek, slaughter steers were weak to 50 cents lower. Heifers closed mostly steady. Cows were 1.00-2.00 lower after an early advance lost. Bulls closed weak. Four day receipts 14,600 as compared 7,400 previous week and 18,600 a year ago. Fed cattle prices declined the forepart of the week under bearish influence of a dull carcass trade, and most buying interests were selective. However most of the early downturn was regamed in spirited mid- week trading as carcass prices pointed upward and most interests were in need of cattle for immediate requirements. One major buyer was still out of operation for plant renova tion and vacations and much of the supply was bought for slaughter outside the im mediate Omaha area. Slaughter steers made up approximately 51 pet. of the week’s supply and heifers 31 pet, a fair percentage choice included. Cows comprised 12 pet. and feeders only 3 pet.
