Berks County has 8 dairy

READING - Berks County
dairy farmers have eight
girls competing in the county
dairy princess pageant.
AH contestants have at
tended make-up, hair
dressing, public speaking,
and modeling clinics. They
also had the opportunity on
June 8 to attend a nutrition
seminar given by Sandra
Tousani, nutritionist for the
Dairy Council. On June 10 a
brunch will be held by the
Berks County Dairy
Association for the con
testants and their mothers at
the International House,
Berkshire Mall,
Wyomissing.
During the week of June 12
the contestants will par
ticipate in various activities
held at the Berkshire Mall
which include a dairy
products cooking contest on
Monday evening, butter
making on Tuesday evening,
a fashion show on Wed
nesday evening, special
music entertainment and
dairy recipes on Thursday
evening, and square dancing
on Friday evening. A second
fashion show will also be
held June 15 on Penn Square,
Reading.
The actual Berks County
Dairy Princess Pageant will
be held on Saturday, June 17,
at the Sheraton Berkshire
Inn, Wyomissing. Dinner
will be served at 7:00 p.m.
and the pageant will begin at
8:00 p,m.
The contestants are:
Mary Ann Weyer,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald Weyer, Hamburg R 2.
The Weyer’s milk about 34
Holsteins but Mary Aim has
several Jerseys that she
cares for and shows. She is
18 and graduated from
Hamburg High School in 1977
and is presently a
bookkeeper.
Mary Ann participated in
various clubs and activities
while in school and is
presently active in 4-H as a
county representative. She
enjoys farming very mcch
and helps at home whenever
her time permits.
Karen Sattazahn, 18, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Sattazahn,
Womelsdorf Rl. She plans to
attend Kutztown State

education after graduation
from Conrad Weiser High
School.
Karen is a 4-H public af
fairs president and blue
form winner. She is active in
the Grange, Berks County
Junior Holstein Club, and St.
John’s Church, a member of
her high school band, Senior
Chorus, drama club, year
book staff, Junior Classical
League, and National Honor
Society. She enjoys
traveling, meeting people,
showing at fairs and
collecting post cards.
Karen’s family has a herd of
lOSHolsteins.
Teresa Wolfskill, 18 is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Mark Wolfskill, Robesonia
Rl. The Wolfskin’s maintain
a herd of 60 Holsteins.
Teresa plans to attend
Lebanon Valley College
after high school graduation
to study chemistry. She is
presently involved in senior
chorus, glee club,
choraleers, county chorus,
student council, and
National Honor Society.
Teresa was also class
historian and participates in
her church choir, The
English Handbell Choir and

is assistant organist. She
enjoys working with cows
and playing the organ.
Eileen Rohrbach, 17, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Alton Rohrbach,
ShoemakersviUe. They have
a herd of 67 Holsteins. Eileen
plans to become a secretary
and attend a business college
after graduating. She is
active in the Virginville 4-H
Dairy Club, Fleetwood
Grange and Junior Holstein
Club. Eileen also plays
clarinet in the band and
belongs to the wilderness
club, and Future Business
Leaders of America, is a
cheerleader and holds an
Explorer Post Zion’s U.C.C.,
Windsor Castle.
Her hobbies include
swimming, hiking, skiing,
sewing, and playing piano.
Marie Herbert, 21, is the
daughter of Mrs. Elva
Herbert and the late Paul
Herbert, Kutztown Rl. She is
a graduate of Kutztown Area
High School and is presently
a herdsman for Green-Valli
Holsteins.
Mane is a member of the
Junior Holstein Club and
Fleetwood Grange where
she is youth treasurer. She is

also a 4-H club leader. She
participates in the senior
choir and Sunday School at
New Jerusalem U.C.C.
Her hobbies include
showing dairy cattle and
helping others at fairs,
sewing, bowling, softball,
' and singing with the family.
Cindy Howard, 17, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Leroy Howard, Oley R 2. The
Howards have a herd of 125
Holsteins. Cindy is a F senior
at Oley Valey High School
and plans to work in a Post
Office and possibly attend
cosmetology school.
She is active in the Christ
Lutheran Church,
Spangsville, and par
ticipates in softball, bowling,
and gymnastics. Her hobbies
include stock car 'races,
tennis and swimming;
Wendy Shaw, 17, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Shaw, Oley R 2. Upon
graduation, Wendy plans to
attend a college for
agriculture to study dairy
science.
Presently Wendy is an
active member in the
Eastern Berks Dairy Club, 4-
H sewing club, and is a 4-H
teen leader. She is also an
officer in the Oley Valley
FFA, and belongs to the
Junior Holstein Club. Wendy
is a member of St Gabriel
Episcopal Church and
participates in public
speaking and the class play.
Her hobbies include
showing cows, public
speaking, reading, and dairy
judging.
Bonnie Davis, 17, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Davis, Bernville R 2.
They maintain a herd of 52
Holsteins. Bonnie will be a
senior at Tulpehocken High
School next year and plans to
work for her father upon
graduation.
Presently Bonnie is active
in the Tulpehocken FFA, is
treasurer of Christ Little
Tulpehocken Church Youth
Group, and is a Sunday
School teacher. Her hobbies
are crocheting, knitting, and
working with dairy cows.
