Wilson, dairymen are leaving the Order at a slower rate than in recent years. In fact, producer decline is reported by Wilson to be the smallest since 1940. Both the numerical loss and the percentage decline slowed dramatically, says the report. The average numbers of producers in the pool totaled 18,820 in 1977, 508 fewer than last year. This was the smallest decline since 1940, the first complete year the Orders were in operation. Declines registered for the previous years in this decade ranged from 867 to 1,752 producers. The number of can producers fell by almost 30 per cent while the loss in bulk tank producers com prised 97,3 per cent of the total in December 1977. The number of handlers in the pool showed a great variation from month to month. Compared to 1976, it was larger only in May and September and the same in October. The average for 1977 declined to 109 or six fewer than a year ago. Plants with and without producer milk declined in 1977 by five and three, respectively. Gary will be traveling in a group of 33 youth, 16-20 year olds from 17 states. The group will travel by air and bus as they experience home stays with host families, visits with European youth groups, tour historical sights, and meet new friends from many different cultures in Europe as well as other youth from other states in the U.S. A. Gary completed 10 years as a 4-H member and is currently a 4-H Leader with the Blue Mountain 4-H club.
