Taking advantage of a bit of
editorial privilege, I hereby declare
June as life on the farm month. And,
lest anyone becomes concerned over
June -- Dairy Month -- being
neglected, let me state my case by
beginning with the dairy angle.
June is life on the farm month
because this is the time of year when
dairymen have one cow going into
the maternity pasture while another
is coming out. This is one of the
busiest months for the calf stork, as
well as the farmer.

amidst clumps of orchard grass, and
later darting away from the farmer’s

June is the month when days are
longest. Everything on the farm
has sprung to life in full force and
splendor.
Corn is up and stretching towards
sunny skies. The alfalfa is thick and
tall. In the pasture, grass is just
barely staying ahead of the cows. In
another month its growth will have
slowed down. Singing birds and
buzzing insects add more proof that
this is life on the farm month.
