Cows were 501.00 lower and
bulls weak to 1.00 lower.
Four day receipts 19,300 as
compared 16,500 last week
and 17,900 a year ago. The
fed cattle trade was
characterized by an air of
aggressiveness as most
buying interests came into
the week in need of cattle for
immediate requirements.
The upsurge in live prices
continued with the advance
supported by sharply higher
quotations on carcass beef at
the wholesale level. Best
demand centered on choice
and prime 1100-1300 lb.
steers and 950-1100 lb.
heifers, but feeder buyers
were again competitive for
two way cattle suitable for a
short turn in the feedlot as
futures board prices allowed
hedging to advantage. Tne
overall finish of the steer
supply was rather attractive
with a fairly liberal per
centage choice and a modest
volume choice and prune.
Much of the dwindling heifer
supply was good to average
choice.
