—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 6,1978 146 Performance tested HARRISBURG Agriculture Secretary Kent D. Shelhaxner has announce! that Pennsylvania’s second performance test ram sale will be held on June 3 at the Agriculture Department’s Meat Animal Evaluation Center, University Park, at 2 p.m. Shelhamer said that prior to 1970, too much emphasis was placed on breed characteristics, style, head, ears, and color instead of growth, the amount of retail cuts, or the composition of weight gain in sheep. “Learning from the past,” WHAT'S MEW TRUCK BUMPER A unique truck bumper that also serves as an air tank, stabilizer, traction booster and quick hitch is being built by Wadler Manufacturing Co. of Galena, Kans. Called Super Bumper, it comes in sporty chrome models, or painted versions for the more economy minded. It will fit the front or rear of anj major brand pick-up track, four-wheel drive vehicle or van, says the company Super Bumper is six in ches square and made of thickwall, heavy-duty steel. The product’s most unusual feature is its air tank. Holding 12 gallons of air at 150 PSI, the bumper delivers enough air to ac complish several jobs ranging from pressurizing water systems on recreational vehicles to inflating flat tires. An accessory vacuum pump provides the bumper with a constant and automatic air supply. It mounts directly mto a vehicle’s vacuum system and comes with a dash mounted gauge. A quick hitch and lighted license plate bracket are standard on each bumper. Removal of a single pin permits a four-inch height adjustment to the Class EH hitch. Super Bumper weighs 160 pounds. In the customary rear-mounted position it boosts traction by the ap- PUBLIC SALE FARM EQUIPMENT, BUILDINGS TO BE REMOVED, ETC. THURSDAY, MAY 11 10 A.M. South of Palmyra, Leon Drive. He can only improve his sheep as rapidly as purebred breeders improve the quality and performance of the rams they offer for sale,” he said. “Commercial sheepmen and breeders,” said the agriculture secretary, “should be willing to pay proximate equivalent of 400 pounds of dead-weight over a vehicle’s axle. The bumper does a sur prising job m stabilizing the handling and ride charac teristics of any vehicle, according to Wadler of ficials. Even weight distribution and extended load area are key factors m this. The bumpers will retail in the range of $l5O to $2BO.
