The signed up farms in

20,390,278 acres of wheat and
23,632,893 acres of feed
grains. Cropland to be set
aside by the participating
farms totaled 6,441,345
acres. This does not include
additional acreage signed up
under the feed gram and

provisions. Feed grains
eligible for the 1978 program
are barley, corn, and
sorghum.
Participating farms have
82,384,161 acres of normal
crop acreage (NCA), 31.5
per cent of the total NCA of
261,469,645 acres for the U.S.
Participation in the set
aside program is voluntary.
However, non-participants
are not eligible for price
support loans, disaster
payments or deficiency
(target price) payments.
Sign-up began March 1 and
will continue through May
15. A progress report will be
issued each Tuesday until
sign-up is completed.

The Ornamental Nursery
Management Winter Course
of Penn State provides train
ing in identification, pro
pagation, nursery produc
tion and management, land
scape use and design, and
maintenance of trees,
shrubs, annual and peren
nial flowers. The manage
ment of greenhouses and
other forcing structures is
also included in the instruc
tion.
The noncredit course con
sists of two eight week terms
a year in each of two years.
The six months summer
period between the second
and third terms is used for
on-the-job training.
High School graduates
who are interested in work
ing with plants and in home
improvement are eligible to
enroll.
