The upward spiral in feed
cattle prices extended into
the third successive week,
and only once in six weeks
has a lower trend prevailed
for the weekly trading
period. Over the past eight
weeks steer prices have
advanced some 5.00-5.50 and
heifers 4.004.50 with closing
levels the highest since
October 1975. Demand was
generally good as most in
terests entered the period
with modest live inventories
on hand and the upturns
were again supported to
some extent by higher
carcass prices. Best inquiry
still centered on choice and
prime relatively clean 1100-
1300 lb. steers and 950-1100
lb. heifers. Mud was a
continuing problem often
resulting in 50-1.00 per cwt.
discounts in reflection of
lowered dressing per

approximately 39 per cent,
heifers 40 per cent, cows 10
per cent and feeders 10 per
