Aha! Around the house

that the broad tummy isn’t
coming from overfeeding on
the abundance of bam mice

If kittens are on the way,
can Spring really be far

We hear so much about the

the world’s ills? In other
words, do caring parents

It seems to me that many
farm families are
representative of those that
struggle with a definite
purpose in mind. Per
petuation of life is the reason
for their existence. They are
not only interested in the
present but they also plan for
the future. There is a con
tinuity about their very
lives. They choose to live not
only for themselves but they
also are concerned for
others.

A letter to my husband’s
mother, from her college
professor brother, upon her
marriage over 60 years ago,
urged her and her farmer
husband to be leaders in
their community as they had
the privilege of both being
school teachers and college
graduates.

There are ample op
portunities for all to pitch in
-even young children. There
is no problem such as
suburbanites have in only
having waste baskets to
empty and a yard to mow as
responsibilities for their
youngsters.
There is a sense of unity in
that a good year and a job
well done pays off for
everyone. When money is
tight everyone feels the
pinch and then we learn that
there are other joys in life
which can be shared; even
the simple act of sitting
down and talking to each
other.
I believe that farm
families celebrate the past
more than many others do.
Maybe it is because they
aren’t as mobile as some
families. They really are
tied to the soil and what
grandpa or even great
grandpa did is talked over
and discussed. Being of a
conservative strain, many
reminders of early life here
in America have been
preserved and handed down
generation after generation.
Let us hope our youth will
do us proud.
