Saturday March U, 1978; Atlantic honors area dairymen LANCASTER - Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, headquartered here, honored a number of area dairymen recently during various membership meetings held throughout the state. All of the recognized dairy farmers received distinctive Certificates of Merit for their high herd averages on DHIA testing programs. All herds were at least 15 per cent above the state average for milk or butterfat production last year, while at least two-thirds of the cows in these herds are progeny of Atlantic sires. Some herds are 100 per cent Atlantic progeny. Several members were also cited for their assistance in using young sires this past year, as the Cooperative continues its extensive program of testing the true genetic merit of some 30 bulls per year through random matings in many different herds. Atlantic Breeders representatives informed members that 1977 was a very successful business year for Atlantic. Service Technicians provided nearly 300,000 services, and semen sales continued to be profitable. Atlantic sires maintained their rating among the nation’s best for transmitting profitable traits said a company spokesman. A 25-minute movie was shown to help members understand the importance of sound type traits for both production and reproduc tion. The application of this principle through Atlantic’s Mate-Rite program was also explained as an aid to' breeding improved cattle. Atlantic members who were patrons in 1965 recently received a cash refund totaling over $56,000. New equities have been issued to members active in 1977, amounting to 9% of gross revenue for the year. Members present voted for District representatives for the coming year. Elec tion results will be an nounced in the next issue of the Cooperative’s monthly newsletter, since more than one meeting is held in most of Atlantic’s 16 Districts. Under the new law this ceiling increases at the rate of $5OO per year until 1982, when the maximum earnings allowed will reach $6,000. There is no earnings limit for retired persons over 70 years of age. Persons who delay retirement beyond age 65 will receive a “bonus” benefit of three per cent for each year of postponement. For example, an individual eligible for $275 per month retirement benefit at age 65 who delays retirement to age 68 would receive an additional $25 per month, or $3OO per year. Under the old law, the delayed retirement credit was one per cent per year. Employer Contribution Rate 5.85 6.05 6.13 a n "v ~ f " s. O < i *• 4 X * ; * i ~ N * \ vl ! > % - PjM See your nearest v.
