Livestock market an Omaha Cattle Thursday, March 2,1978 Compared with the previous week’s close: closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were 25-50 higher. Best inquiry for relatively dean choice and prime. Cows were 50-1.00 lower and- bulls 50-1.00 higher. ■' Four day receipts 14.000 as compared 14,600 previous week and 11,200 a year ago. The fed cattle trade followed a rather uneven course during the week under review. Live prices sagged on the opening session as buyers sought to bring live costs in line with carcass realizations on a bearish carcass trade; however, the early decline was more than offset on later sessions as carcass trading improved, and most interests were in need of cattle for dose-up slaughter requirements. Mud was often a major trade factor making dressing percentages uncertain and loadlots carrying con siderable mud often sold SO LDO below relatively clean cattle of same grade. Slaughter steers made up approximately 39 percent of the week’s total and heifers 38 percent. Cows comprised 10 percent and feeders 10 -percent.
