neighbors since all of you
can spread the disease.
Limit visits.
Burn or render dead birds.
Transport them only in
plastic bags or covered con
tainers.
DO NOT make any excep
tions to the above rules.
DO NOT allow equipment
to be brought to your farm
that has not been
disinfected.
DO NOT allow your
employees to have back yard
poultry or pet birds.
DO NOT keep any stray
chickens after the flock is
removed.
The Task Force urges all
poultrymen to take these
precautions very seriously.
No exceptions whatsoever. It
is particularly important to
enforce them for men who go
from one poultry house to
another, such as repairmen
and servicemen.
It is pointed out em
phatically by Task Force
members that the disease
outbreaks thus far have been
transmitted from farm to
farm by humans. Carryers
include clothing, boots, tools,
egg crates, etc.
Dr. Mallinson’s office
notes that out of the 25
reported cases of
laryngotracheitis reported
since late October of 1977,
only three were discovered
since the beginning of this
year. However, those latest
three cases account for
189,000 birds, Or nearly half
of the total found. Initial
cases of laryngotracheitis in
volved mostly smaller
flocks.
