—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 4,1978 142 Survey set to update farm production costs HARRISBURG - State Agriculture Secretary Kent Shelhamer has announced that the Pennsylvania Crop Reporting Service, m cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be conducting a survey during February and March to determine 1977 farm production expenditures. Shelhamer said that farm production outlays must be closely watched in order to provide a realiable measure of the farmers’ economic well being in relation to other groups in the national economy. Shelhamer noted that in 1976 farmers in the United States paid out over $B9 billion to produce crops, livestock and poultry. Fluke, Agricultural Statistician of the Penn sylvania Reporting Service, said that farmers would be asked questions concerning their outlays for equipment and services along with other production needs for 1977. In addition, farmers will be asked about their marketing practices for livestock, field crops, fruits, and vegetables. Fluke said that farmers’ responses will be con fidential. Only state and national summaries of survey results will be published.
