This year’s flying farmer of the year from the Penn- sylvania chapter is David Kruger, Lebanon R 4, im • mediate past president of the organization. Kruger, who is now a German and European literature teacher at Annville-Cleona High School is a former dairyman and 17-year-member of the Pennsylvania Flying Far mers. Kruger refers to himself as “one of a growing crop of Saturday farmers” springing up around the nation. On their 123 acre farm he and his family raise mostly com, and they own a herd of 45 Charolais beef cattle, 26 of which are cows. “What I can’t do I hire out,” he states, adding, “We have wonderful neighbors.” He is also quick to recognize the efforts of his wife Naomi who does most of the regular farm chores. Winning the recognition of wife of the year was Anita McCoy, the wife of Lanny' McCoy from Milroy. JThe Mifflin County woman who “just loves flying” helps her husband at the Mifflin County airport in Reedsville where he is a fix base operator and manager. Mrs. McCoy who joined the organization in 1965, has her student pilot’s license and soloed in July of 1977. This 33-year-old mother of two is a former Flying Farmer queen and is active in community organizations. Topping the evening’s on Saturday night ■was the coronation of the queen and farmerette of the year. This year’s queen is Marguerite Hobert, Alburtis Rl, the wife of Allen Hobert, who was also elected to this year’s board of directors. The Roberts own a fruit farm, and Mrs. Robert runs the roadside market. Anita McCoy, who helps her husband Lanny at the Mifflin County airport, was named the Flying Farmer wife of the year at the 12th annual convention of the Pennsylvania Flying Farmers at the Strasburg Motor Inn. Mrs. Marguerite Hobert, Alburtis Rl, will take on the duties of official hostess for the Pennsylvania Flying Farmers to fulfill her role as the 1978 Pennsylvania Flying Farmer queen. r.
