—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 4,1978 34 Fruit and vegetable conference HERSHEY - More than 100 commercial exhibits and three days of convention programs were featured at the first ever joint meetings of several fruit and vegetable growers’ associations, held here this week. In progress from Tuesday morning through most of Thursday, the multi organization event drew enthusiastic crowds from all over Pennsylvania and adjoining states. One of the major reasons the event was so popular was because of what it had to offer. Personnel from Sperry’s Training Center will present the program which will include films, slides, discussion, and actual practice working on the forage harvesters in the training center shop. The concept of holding such a joint meeting allowed participating groups and individuals to line up better speakers while offering a fme opportunity to work together and discuss mutual problems. Seminars which focused in on the complete growing spectrum were offered. This marked the first time that such opportunities were offered to horticulturists and vegetable farmers. Prior to this year, the vegetable and horticultural conferences were held at Penn State’s University Park campus.
