not as risky for them
because if the cow is con
demned, it is the farmer who
takes the loss.
The size of their operation
does create a problem for

butcher runs the risk of

to cut browse for deer.

Cutting browse for deer is
especially important at this
time of the year due to the
continuous snow cover
present since October. Deep
crusted snow will prevent
deer and other animals from
feeding on the soil surface.
They depend on new woody
growth of trees for food.

When the Lancaster
County group cut browse,
the snow'was approximately
two feet deep, making the
walking and cutting difficult.
About one acre of browse
was cut in State Games
Lands 37 under the super
vision of David Brown,
Games Lands Manager for
Tioga and Potter Counties.
The group was com
plimented on their interest
and effort in cutting the
browse under adverse
conditions.
The members stayed at
Martin’s hunting camp
located near Draper.
Snowmobiles were used to
make the 1% mile trip to the
cabin. Highlights of the trip
included tours of the Pa.
Lumber Museum, Denton
Hill Ski Area, Hills Creek
State Park, Pa. Grand
Canyon, and the Moms
Trout Hatchery. The group
also had a chance to go ice
fishing and observe beaver
houses.
