Red meat d< HARRISBURG - Red meat production in Penn sylvania during December 1977 totaled 96.6 million pounds, down two per cent from a year earlier ac cording to the Pennsylvama Crop Reporting Service. Cattle slaughter at 88,100 head was down three per cent from a year earlier, calf slaughter at 31,00 head was down 16 per cent, hog slaughter at 268,900 head was down nine per cent, and sheep and lambs at 11,100 head were down eight per cent. Nationally, commercial red meat production during December 1977 totaled 3.2 billion pounds, down four per cent from a year earlier. Cattle slaughter was down one per cent, calf slaughter was down eight per cent, hog slaughter was down five per cent, and sheep and lambs were down 17 per cent. Steve Neely joins Sire Power TUNKHANNOCK - Steven A. Neely joined Sire Power’s Sire Development team as sire programs consultant January Ist, according to Lloyd Ebersole, director of Sire Develop ment. Neely’s primary responsiblity will be analyzing herds throughout Sire Power’s growing market area. He was also a member of the 1974 Penn State dairy judging team.
