PROFESSIONAL MILKING SYSTEMS FOR THE MILKING PROFESSIONAL Phone 717-626-1151 Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 14, 197 S Window exhibit honors go to Cloister FFA HARRISBURG - In their first Farm Show com petition, the Cloister Future Farmers of America Chapter from Ephrata High School took a first placing in the vocational window exhibit contest held this week in Harrisburg. The display, entitled “The Chicken Puts It All Together,” . told what was required to produce an egg and its food value. A winner at two local fairs during the Fall, the Ephrata entry had already earned the chapter $BO before they decided to enter it in Farm Show. The basic color scheme is bright yellow and bright blue - the FFA colors - and the exhibit features 25 live chicks. According to remarks from passers-by, these live chicks are probably the most striking aspect of the exhibit. The chapter decided to go with the chicks mainly because other displays featured an attention-getting mechanical device, and the Cloister Chapter wanted the same benefits through a more unique avenue. According to one of the members of the Ephrata High School junior class who helped to construct the blue ribbon winner, the first {dace display took a lot of work. After initial construction for the local shows, the display was stored for three weeks. Then it was moved back to the Ephrata vo-ag shop by mid-December for touch ups. This ' remodeling effort took several hours each day 1 for the members involved and included replacing some stenciled letters, repainting backboards, and reworking a homemade scaled down barn which housed the chicks. assssnssswwwww WARM UP YOUR WINTER WITH THESE HOT SAVINGS! "According to one of the Ephrata chapter members, this year will probably be the start of a regular tradition now that they have achieved their initial success. Since they concentrate on the various different areas of livestock, the next topic is expected to be beef. The second place exhibit was entitled “Happy 50th Birthday” and featured a revolving Future Farmers of America birthday cake as well as literature and plaques on the FFA. The chapter entering it was Northern Lebanon High School. In clearly printed, easy reading lettering on the backboard, comparisons between the 1928 and 1977 FFA were made. Yorks go to Blair Co.
