The elder Gruber manages A & B’s farms where ap proximately 150 sows are kept, and commercial gilts are sold for breeding pur poses. A second win on Thursday for Gruber came when one of his animals was also named reserve champion heavyweight. This animal was second in rank to the heavyweight which became reserve gr champion, overall. Greg Strict vho showed the reserve c;. mp, overall, was firt named heavyweight division champion with his 239 pound Duroc crossbred gilt At nine years old this is Greg’s first year at showing. He is a member of the Berks County 4-H Swine Club, and he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Strieker. Taking the championship of the light heavyweight division was Jay Bomgard ner, Annville, with a homebred 226 pound Hampshire. Three days previous to the Thursday market bog competition, Jay’s brother Charles had earned top honors in Hampshire breeding swine competition. The two brothers are in partnership, along with a third brother, in Blue Mountain View Farms. Jay, who is president of the Lebanon County 4-H Livestock Club, has never even had a first placing in the market swine com petition, prior to this although he also had a champion bred gilt last year. Happy with his ac complishment, the youth admitted that he had aimed for the market hog title this year, and while he didn’t gamer the overall cham pionship, he was pleased to go as far as he did.
