For her jams and jellies,
Anne’s project was “Say it
with jams.” She displayed a
gift box of spiced blueberry
jam, red plum jam,
strawberry preserves, and
peach preserves. AH of the
jam products were raised on
their own farm, Anne said.
Anne is active in her 4-H
club. As a teen leader in a
start with a small change
project she made bulletin
boards, curtains and
wallpapered her room. She
said that the teen leaders
before her - the Waybright
girls - has stressed that
someone should have a
demonstration at each club
meeting. Consequently,
Anne was in the habit of
giving demonstrations, and
said, “I started entering
county demonstrations my
second year in 4-H, and I
went to regional every time.
She also attended 4-H days
with a demonstration this
year, “Focus on Hems.”
Anne says, “4-H has
changed my personality. I
used to be so shy, now I seem
to get along with people
better. There is also a lot of
knowledge that goes with 4-
H.”
Her mother, who is now an
organizational leader with
the Mount Joy Club, said
they chose Pennsylvania 4-H
because “when you see good
leadership you appreciate
it” She added, “The 4-H

program is to be com

wholesome, educational way
of growing up. It offered her
so much,”
Anne is a sophomore at St.
Joseph’s Academy at
Emimtsburg, Md., where
she is on the volleyball team
and is photographer’s
assistant for the yearbook.
She will also try out for
softball in the Spring.
The family attends the
Gettysburg Presbyterian
Church where Anne is active
in the senior high fellowship,
plays the piano for Sunday
School, and plays in the
handbell choir.
Anne also accompanies
the school chorus and takes
ballet lessons. She said her
many years of ballet have
helped her, especially when
she models in 4-H dress
revue.
Anne is a member of the
Adams County 4-H Senate,
and hosted 4-H’ers from Elk-
Jefferson Counties and from
Wisconsin. She also went on
an exchange trip to Maine.
About the exchange trips she
said, “I learn how other 4-H
operates and I learn about
other cultures.”
When Anne returns from
the Farm Show next week,
you can be sure she will have
many new ideas to translate
into a winning 4-H garment
for next year.
