WHAT'S NEW
HAYTENDERS
Two new haytenders, the
MF 725 and MF 925, have
been added to Massey-
Ferguson hay harvesting
line to fill the need for
mower conditioners. The
machines cut, condition and
windrow hay in one
operation.
The MF 725 has a 9 foot 7
inch overall width and a cut
of 7 feet 3 inches. The MF 925
is 11 foot 7 inches wide with a
cut of 9 foot 3 inches.
Both models are equipped
with a three-position dial
hitch operated from the
tractor seat by a rope pull
system. A nylon rub plate in
the dial hitch provides a
smooth sliding surface when
changing positions. In
transport, the haytender is
within the tractor’s width to
allow passage through
narrow gates. The outer field
position permits the tractor
to straddle wide windrows
from previous rounds.
Key features include an
enclosed PTO to prevent
crop wrapping or tractor
wheel damage, a standard
540 rpm PTO convertible to
1000 rpm in the field, a sprag
clutch to protect the drives
and tractor clutch, and a belt
drive with spring-loaded
front straddle-mounted idler
to control belt tension and
eliminate the need for a slip
clutch.
The heavy duty knife drive
operates at 1600 strokes per
minute, and the knife head
has a rubber bushing to
absorb tension and shock.
The 21-in. diameter, fully
enclosed drum reel provides
increased strength and
feeding ability. This reduces
hay bunching and drive belt
strain.
The simple roll design - a
fluted steel top roll and a
spiral-grooved ticord bottom
roll - aDows the stems and
Through mid-week,
slaughter steers and heifers
were mostly 50C higher
instances 75C higher, some
late sales steers 1.00-1.25 up.
Cows were steady to weak,
bulls weak to 1.00 lower.
Four day receipts 16,800 as
compared' 17,200 previous
week and 16,300 a year ago.
Demand was generally good
for slaughter steers and
heifers, and some trade
stimulation was provided by
bitter cold over the trade
area and poor road con
ditions in some sections.
Most interests were in need
of cattle for immediate
requirements, and there was
mild strength on carcass
prices by the wholesale level
with improved demand. The
local supply included a fair
percentage choice steers and
heifers although many
loadlots were dirty or
carrying a moderate amount
of mud in reflection of
worsening feedlot con
ditions. Slaughter steers
made up approximately 41
pet and heifers 37 pet. cows
comprised 9 pet and feeders
11 pet.
STEERS: Load choice and
prime 341184 lbs. 44.25 late,
two loads and part load
choice and prime 34 1175-
1238 lbs. 43.65-43.75 at
leaves to dry at the same
time and prevents over
conditioning and wrapping.
The design also eliminates
the need for timing the rolls.
The rolls open 2 inches when
the machine is raised for
transport. This makes un
plugging easy.
Other features include a
swath gate control, 38 inch
cutterhead-to-wheels spaci
ng to prevent gouging,
“terra" tires for flotation,
extra knife storage, a guard
straightening tool, tool box
and tall crop divider as
standard equipment.
GRINDER—BLOWER
A multi-purpose grin
der/recutter that doubles as
a high-capacity blower has
been introduced by Far
mhand, Inc., farm equip
ment manufacturer based
here. By changing screens,
hammers or choosing an
alternative hopper, - the
grinder-blower may be used
to grind hay bales, high
moisture grams, stover or
used just as a forage blower.
Heart of the FBB grinder
blower is a 650-pound
flywheel mill that operates
inside a 10 inch by 57 inch
chamber. Six hammer
assemblies with four
hammers per assembly are
mounted on the 1 inch thick
flywheel. Screens encircle
the interior of the chamber
and are quartered for easy
changing Removing the
screens and hammer
assemblies lets the unit
operate as a blower without
particle reduction.
A choice of two infeed
doors adapts the grinder
blower for either gram or
forage handlmg. The plain
table has a hydraulic
operated rubber belt and is
used for reconstituting hay
or stoker and grinding gram

The gravity door, which has
a magnet mounted in the
throat to keep metal from
entering the mill, is designed
for grain and forage
operation. An eight foot
chain and slat cross con
veyor with hydraulic drive
and flail hopper is used to
feed either door. A 12 foot
hydraulic operated chain
conveyor is designed for
carrying bales to the bale
table. Adjustable vents on
the front of the blower
chamber regulate air
through the blower and aid
material flow. The
hydraulically operated plain
table and optional cross
conveyor with hydraulic
control assure constant
material passage to the
machine under any con
ditions.
Power goes to the
machine through a 1,000
RPM shaft rated at 175
horsepower. Optional
equipment includes a choice
of thirteen screens ranging
from 1/4 inch to 2% inch and
a bar screen for hay and
stover grinding.
The grinder-blower is
available from Farmhand
dealers and distributors
throughout the U.S. and
Canada. Farmhand
manufacturers a broad line
of crop handling and har
vesting equipment and
specialized agricultural
machinery. Corporate of
fices are at 1011 First Street
South, Hopkins.
